The EAE Game Lecture Series Presents:
Title: Doing Games With Science: The Science of Designing and Developing Human Computation Games
Speaker: Kristin Siu
Date: Feb 6, 3:30-4:30pm
Location: Building 72, RM 115
Open to the public
Description:
From tagging cat images to folding proteins, players have solved a variety of difficult crowdsourcing and scientific problems with games. Making these games — known as human computation games, games with a purpose, and scientific discovery games — is not always straightforward. How do we ensure that these games are simultaneously engaging player experiences and effective problem-solving interfaces? How do we incorporate best practices from general game development and human computation? In this talk, I present an introduction to human computation games (HCGs) and address the challenges of developing HCGs that are both fun and functional.
